Kobunshi Katsura IV
Kobunshi Katsura IV was born in Osaka City on January 5, 1951. He entered the professional line of Kobunishi Katsura in July 1969.
He is a member of the Kamigatarakugo Association. He is the chairman of the Kamigatarakugo wo Kiku-kai .
In March 2019, he assumed the stage name of “Kobunshi Katsura IV,” becoming the successor to the “Kobunshi Katsura” stage name within the Katsura-style of rakugo comedic storytelling.
Rakugo story of a pilgrimage to Kumano
Kamigata rakugo storytelling is full of travel stories: trips to the east, trips to the west, trips into the sky, trips into the sea and trips to Ise. However, there have been no stories about trips to Kumano; so, when my predecessor, the fifth Bunshi Katsura, was asked by the chief priest of Kumano Hayatama Taisha Grand Shrine, he came up with and performed his own story of a pilgrimage to Kumano.
Now I have the opportunity to perform this rakugo story myself. I hope that I am able to carefully nurture and grow it further.
